Examples of USU Physics Research Posters

·
Posters can be printed at the Computer
Lab in the Engineering Building or at Kinko’s.
The Engineering Computer Lab is generally less costly and provides one
day service. It is often a good idea to
create a PDF format file using Adobe Acrobat; this can often avoid formatting
problems that sometimes occur, particularly with equations and symbols. The cheapest paper to use is standard matte
paper; you may want to consider laminating this. A good alternative is to print directly onto
a plastic medium; this avoids the need to laminate the poster and makes it more
durable, but costs a bit more.
·
Be sure that your poster conforms to
any specific formats required by the specific venue you are preparing your
poster for. For example you can refer to
details for the USU Student Showcase, the Utah Undergraduate Research Day on
Capitol Hill, or the National CUR Posters on the Hill.
Attached are
several examples of research posters prepared by USU physics undergraduates and
faculty for presentations like the USU Student Showcase. These are available to provide templates for
your posters. However, they are only a
starting point. You should use your own
creativity to develop your own style, best suited for your specific project.

The examples below were prepared using
Microsoft PowerPoint and Adobe Acrobat.
The easiest way to prepare your own poster is to load an example into
PowerPoint and then modify it to your content.
To begin from scratch, choose New Presentation, then
indicate the type of layout you will use.
Select the Page Setup from the File menu; change the “slides
fixed for” to custom and adjust the paper size as needed. The slides
should be landscape. Click okay.
·
The first two example posters on the
left are 46” wide and 34” high, laid out in landscape mode. This standard size fits nicely onto a 4’x3’
display board and is also good for display on the web. Note that the left and right panels in the
examples are placed so that they show up on the fold-out panels of the display
board. The size can be easily modified
by selecting the Page Setup from the File menu and adjusting the
page size.
·
The first two example posters on the
right show other sizes and formats.
