BS (1959) Utah State University
MS (1961) University of Wisconsin
PhD (1964) University of Wisconsin

Research Interests:

A. Elementary Particle Physics

1. One of the discoverers of the Lambda muon-decay.

2. Established the Lambda beta-decay to be of the Vector-Axial type with a V-1.2A interaction.

3. Measured the branching ratio for Lambda beta-decay and Lambda muon-decay.

4. Measured the mass of the K*(1420).

5. Measured the spin and parity of the K*(1420) and showed it to be 2+ .

6. Co-discoverer of the decay of the K(497).

B. Intermediate Energy Nuclear Physics

1. Found evidence of clustering on the surface of light to medium-mass nuclei in pi-nuclear interactions at energies near the (1236).

2. Measured the cross-section for pion-nuclear interactions leading to the removal of various combinations of nucleons.

3. Measured the decay branching ratio of He6 -->a + d to other decay modes.

4. Participated in the discovery and mass measurement of over 70 nuclear isotopes.

5. Participated in work on Helium-jet separator and transport of short-lived isotopes.

C. Solar Energy

1. Worked with several different companies on designing solar energy devices including cookers and electrical power plants.

2. Consulted on solar energy devices and uses.

D. Other

1. Collaborated on techniques to enhance the detection of malignant growth in mammograms.

2. Worked on the establishment and development of a magnetic laboratory to develop advanced magnets and magnetic systems.

Administrative Services

Served as Head of Physics Department from 1981 till 1988

Teaching

I have taught most of the physics courses offered in the physics department including courses on astronomy such as "Stars and Galaxies" and "Intelligent Life in the Universe". I have taught several sections of honors courses and taken students on many different field trips. I have taught numerous distant education courses. This includes transmission through telephone such as COMNET as well as use of satellite transmission, and also travel to the sites. This includes teaching courses in education at SUSU at Cedar City.

Authorship:

Besides authoring over 50 scientific papers and delivering over 100 talks at scientific meetings, I have authored several chapters and sections of books. I have also authored four physics books and am currently working on two more.

Supervision of Graduate Students:

I have supervised 18 graduate students as their major professor for the completion of their Ph.D. degree. In addition, I have supervised 14 M.S. students and served on numerous graduate student committees, both inside and outside the Department of Physics.
