Homework
*
The homework must be done via the web. To begin you will need to register at
the online homework website.
Here's how:
(1)
Go
to www.masteringphysics.com.
Click on the image of our book or the text:
Knight Physics for
(2)
A
page with two boxes appears. They are labeled ÒFirst Time User?Ó and
ÒEstablished User?Ó Look at the First Time User Box. If you purchased your book
new, you will already have the six-word, one-use-only code to register and you
should select ÒRegisterÓ. If you bought a used book, you need to buy the access
code separately. Separate access codes are available at the bookstore and
online. If you buy it at the bookstore, ask for the Access Code Packet at the
help desk.
(3)
Once
you select ÒRegisterÓ, you are given a series of registration pages. Enter the
required information. When asked for your Student ID, enter your Banner ID (student A-number). Be sure to give
your correct name and email address. Your Login Name and Password may be
anything you like.
Once
entered, this information cannot be changed, so enter it carefully!
(4)
After
completing your registration, go back to the Login Page and log in. The first
time you do this you will be asked for the Course ID.
The
Course ID is: MPWHEELER0005

"Date due" indicates the deadline for receiving full credit
for your assignment.
The
recitation instructor will cover the relevant material in the recitation(s)
preceding the due date. Late homework will receive 50% credit (therefore, even
if it is late DO IT!)
*The
on-line versions of the problems - the ones you will be solving - are based
upon the problems in the text but will sometimes differ somewhat from them,
e.g., numerically.
*Each on-line problem set will first become available shortly before the first lecture on the corresponding chapter. For example, since the syllabus shows that the lectures on Chapter 23 begin on Sept. 11, the problems for Chapter 3 will become available online on Sept. 8.
*In addition to problems for credit (10 points per problem), each assignment page lists several tutorials (5 points per tutorial). You do not have to work any of the tutorials, but they give more coaching than the regular problems. If you want more practice on or help with a concept, select an appropriate tutorial from the list. These tutorials are primarily for your use – work as many as you like. Notice that the points you receive for tutorials give you a little extra credit, but they donÕt add up as fast as the regular problems.
*Due dates for problems are given in the following table. Some of the dates may change as the term progresses. The due dates and times listed online at MasteringPhysics are the official ones.
