Syllabus

I.  Catalog Description

Physics 4710 Quantum Mechanics II.  Principles of Quantum mechanics, operators in Hilbert space, matrix mechanics, angular momentum, spin, perturbation theory, and applications.

II.  Specifics of Physics 4710

This second semester the following topics are emphasized:  angular momentum, problems in three dimensions, matrix mechanics, spin, applications to atomic, molecular, solid state, and nuclear physics, perturbation theory, radiation, and scattering.

III.     Textbook Introductory Quantum Mechanics, 4th Edition, Richard L. Liboff, Addison Wesley.

       Class Period:  T, Th, 9:00-10:15

       Location: EL 252

       Instructor:  W. F. Edwards
